Do you know your basic synecdoche from your average metonymy?

Everything I know about literary analysis I learned from Charlie Anders' piece at McSweeney's Internet Tendency: A Serial Killer Explains the Distinctions Between Literary Terms.

Well, maybe I exaggerated… But how can we not learn from explanations which begin, "OK, so you're collecting body parts from your victims. The question is, why are you collecting them?"

If you haven't been to McSweeney's lately, you're missing some good stuff!
